Set Up Email on iPhone/iPad (Apple Mail)

Add your cPanel email account to Apple Mail on iPhone or iPad in minutes.

Updated

The Mail app on iOS and iPadOS makes it simple to access your cPanel email on your iPhone or iPad.

Before You Start

Have the following information ready:
- Your email address (name@yourdomain.com)
- Your email password
- Mail server hostname (usually mail.yourdomain.com — your provider will confirm)

Add Your Email Account

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
2. Tap Mail (or Mail, Contacts, Calendars on older iOS versions)
3. Tap AccountsAdd Account
4. Select Other (or IMAP / POP)
5. Fill in your email details:
- Name: Your name (appears as sender)
- Email: your@yourdomain.com
- Password: Your email password
- Description: (optional — e.g., "Work Email")
6. Tap Next
7. Select IMAP (recommended for syncing across devices) or POP (downloads to this device only)
8. Configure incoming mail:
- Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com
- User Name: your@yourdomain.com
- Password: Your email password
9. Tap Next to verify
10. Configure outgoing mail (SMTP):
- Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com
- User Name: your@yourdomain.com
- Password: Your email password
11. Tap Next
12. Review the settings and tap Save

What Is IMAP vs. POP?

IMAP (recommended) — Emails stay synced on the server. Check email from any device and see the same folders and unread status everywhere.

POP — Emails download to your device and leave the server. You'll only see mail on this particular iPhone or iPad.

Troubleshooting

"Cannot Connect"
- Verify the mail server hostname is exactly right (ask your provider if unsure)
- Check that you have an active internet connection (WiFi or cellular)
- Confirm your email password is correct (passwords are case-sensitive)

"Certificate Warning"
- Tap Continue or Trust to proceed; this is normal when your device first connects

Emails Not Syncing
- Go to SettingsMailAccounts → Your Account → Fetch New Data
- Change from "Fetch" to "Push" if your provider supports it, or increase the fetch frequency

Can't Send Mail
- Double-check your SMTP (outgoing) server settings
- Verify your outgoing port is 587 or 465 (ask your provider)
- Confirm your username is your full email address

Tips

  • Use IMAP for the best experience across multiple devices.
  • You can add multiple email accounts by repeating these steps.
  • Enable notifications for new mail in SettingsNotificationsMail.
  • To check mail manually, swipe down on the inbox.
