You can set up your cPanel email on Android using the built-in Gmail app or any third-party email client. This guide covers the Gmail app, which comes pre-installed on most Android devices.
Before You Start
Gather your mail settings:
- Your email address (name@yourdomain.com)
- Your email password
- Mail server hostname (usually mail.yourdomain.com — your provider will confirm)
Using Gmail App (Recommended)
1. Open the Gmail app on your Android device
2. Tap the menu icon (three lines) in the top left
3. Scroll down and tap Settings
4. Tap Add another account
5. Select Other (IMAP/POP)
6. Enter your email address and tap Next
7. Select IMAP (recommended) or POP and tap Next
8. Enter your password and tap Next
9. Configure incoming mail server:
- IMAP Server: mail.yourdomain.com
- Port: 993
- Security: SSL/TLS
10. Tap Next
11. Configure outgoing mail server (SMTP):
- SMTP Server: mail.yourdomain.com
- Port: 587
- Security: STARTTLS
- Username: your@yourdomain.com
- Password: Your email password
12. Tap Next
13. Enter a name for your account (e.g., "Work Email") and tap Next
14. Review your settings and tap Create account
Using Other Email Apps
If you prefer a different email client (Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo Mail, etc.):
1. Open your email app
2. Select Add Account or New Account
3. Choose IMAP or POP as the account type
4. Enter your email address and password
5. Manually enter:
- Incoming: mail.yourdomain.com, port 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP), SSL/TLS
- Outgoing: mail.yourdomain.com, port 587 (STARTTLS) or 465 (SSL/TLS)
6. Complete the setup and test by sending a message
IMAP vs. POP
IMAP (recommended) — Your emails stay on the server and sync across all your devices. Great if you use your computer and phone together.
POP — Emails download to your phone and are removed from the server. Use this only if you check email exclusively on your Android device.
Troubleshooting
"Sign in failed" —
- Double-check your email address and password (case-sensitive)
- Verify you didn't mistype the mail server hostname
- Wait a few minutes and try again
"Connection cannot be established" —
- Confirm you have an active internet connection
- Ask your hosting provider to verify the correct mail server hostname
- Check that your device's firewall or network isn't blocking the mail ports
Emails Not Syncing —
- Go to Settings → Mail (or your app's settings) → Account Settings
- Increase the sync frequency (check more often for new mail)
- For Gmail app: tap Settings → General settings → Sync Gmail and enable it
Can't Send Mail —
- Verify your SMTP server, port, and password in outgoing mail settings
- Try using port 465 if port 587 doesn't work
Tips
- Use IMAP if you check email from multiple devices.
- You can add multiple email accounts by repeating these steps.
- Set up notifications in your email app's settings to get alerts when new mail arrives.
- To reduce data usage, turn off background sync and check mail manually or less frequently.
